Who We Are

About the Program

Greenwood Shalom Tutoring Zone & Summer Enrichment in Dorchester, Massachusetts is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment that attends to the spiritual, educational, physical, and social needs of children, young adults, and their parents.

Greenwood Shalom is a program of Greenwood Memorial United Methodist Church. It was founded by the church Outreach Ministries, October 1999 and in 2000, we became an affiliate site of The Victory Generation After School Programs (BMA) to serve a community challenged by the lack of academic advancement for their children. In 2003 Greenwood Shalom was incorporated and obtained their 501c3 non-profit status.

We believe in working in partnership with parents, schools organizations, and communities to better equip children, the youth, and their families to become productive members of the society. Additionally, we encourage and support parents in their personal growth and development.

At Greenwood Shalom Outreach, Inc., we strive to provide the tools that will help children achieve their greatest possible success— not as how the world defines it, but as how the children define it. Moreover, we believe in the long-term positive effect of the successful academic reading achievement of students— that this will carry over to a new achievement in other academic subjects, as well as, an improved social and emotional behavior.

We have been improving our program structure and the implementation of our rigorous reading literacy program. This process will promote high expectations and great outcomes for our students’ learning, in addition to effective communication between parents, school, and afterschool.

Our organization aims to make the world a better place, one child at a time.

With Your Donations We Can Sponsor a Child

The fight for quality education for the underprivileged kids still has a long way to go. This is where we come in. As an organization, we’re humbly asking for donations to help us support our scholars.

Our policy is not to turn away children due to financial needs. With your donated support, we can make this possible. Here is a list of what your donation can do for our dedicated scholars:

  • A $200.00 donation will sponsor two weeks of tuition fee and supportive tutoring sessions of the scholar.
  • A $500.00 donation will sponsor educational workbooks for 26 enrolled scholars. The workbooks will help them work on math, reading, and writing skills throughout the school year.

Note that scholarships are available based on funding availability. Thank you in advance for your generous donations! All your gifts of love are highly appreciated.
